When people think of healthcare they often think of hospitals, checkups and health insurance. However, the health of an individual extends beyond such outright items and includes things such as mental health, basic hygiene, self-care and more. With fitness centers, hair and nail salons, spas, barber shops and the like deemed nonessential and therefore temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people are looking for home solutions to meet their needs and maintain their appearance. At-home exercising, in particular, is on the rise.
Prior to the pandemic, a Mintel report found that a person’s biggest hurdle when it came to exercising consistently is lack of time. People’s newfound free time due to states’ stay-at-home orders, coupled with gym and fitness studio closures, has resulted in an increase in at-home workouts. Fitness equipment, such as dumbbells, is out of stock at many stores, and there has been a spike in online fitness subscriptions.
It is likely that the at-home workout trend will continue even as the pandemic slows. Most adults will not be in a rush to get back to activities where there will be crowds or situations in which they will be in close proximity to other individuals. As a result, companies within the healthcare space can connect with consumers by offering advice, tips and tricks on how to make the most of exercising at home and still remain injury-free.
